The Greater Terre Haute NAACP Branch will host a program about a critical CASA campaign to balance needs of children with volunteers. Jan Hoff, Recruiter Supervisor of Vigo County’s CASA, will be the featured speaker during the monthly NAACP meeting at the Vigo County Public Library on Monday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m.
The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) office provides an on-going process to work with children in the juvenile court system. Due to increased numbers of children coming into the system, CASA has re-vamped its efforts to recruit volunteers essential to handling the influx of abused and neglected children.
Sandy Wickware, local Criminal Justice committee chair, is a CASA volunteer who says, “more adults in our community need to be aware of the work we do with children and how easily they can become trained to help. Our children need our support.”
Those attending the presentation will learn about the recent changes made to the volunteer training and the positive impact an effective CASA program has on our court system and the community. Branch President Sylvester Edwards reminds us that “we want to ensure equitable dispensation of justice for all. This must include our children who, as victims of abuse and neglect, find themselves in the juvenile court system.”
